Getting Started with SAM Broadcaster v4.6.0

1. Register on

The first step to starting your own online radio station is purchasing radio hosting! You can do this right here on Head over to the plans page to get started.

Now, you may be wondering which plan to choose. This depends mostly on your budget.128Kb/s will sound the best, and 24Kb/s will sound the worst.

If you have a low budget, we recommend 48Kb/s. However, for the best quality, go with 128Kb/s.

Go to the plans page (New window)

2. Configure SAM Broadcaster for broadcasting

a. Launch SAM Broadcaster

b. Find the Encoders sub window. I had this on "Desktop B", yours may vary depending on the layout selected.

c. Click the + on the Encoders sub window to create a new encoder. Select which plugin you wish to use, we suggest using the suggested plugin of MP3 (LAME_ENC). Please note that SHOUTcast only supports MP3 and AAC.

d. Select the Converter tab. Select the maximum bitrate of your plan or lower.

You may also wish to set the mode to Mono audio if you are on a lower bitrate for a better quality stream.

e. Select the Server Details Tab.

Under Server Type, select "ShoutCast"

Under Server Details on the left, add your server's hostname (recommended) or IP address, port and password. These can be found in your welcome email or on the overview page of the client area.

Under Station Details on the right, add your station's name and genre. Then add your website's URL, AIM handle, ICQ number or IRC Channel (if any).

f. Click ok to close the Encoder and Streamer configuration dialog. You'll now see the encoder you created listed in the Encoders sub window. Click the black Play sign to start the encoder.

g. On the Desktop A you can start DJing. Once you are, you will see the dB meters rising and falling and data being sent.
